1. Introduction
Welcome to MakeMealPlan ("we," "our," or "us"). We operate makemealplan.com (the "Site") and are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring a secure, transparent experience. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, process, and safeguard your information when you access or use our Site, tools, and meal planning services.
By visiting, accessing, or using makemealplan.com, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any terms of this policy, please discontinue use of our Site.
2. Information We Collect
We collect several types of information for various purposes to provide and improve our service to you.
2.1 Personal Data (Voluntary Input)
While using our AI meal plan generator, you may voluntarily input personal, metabolic, and lifestyle metrics including:
- Biometric Data: Age, gender, height, and weight.
- Fitness Parameters: Physical activity levels and weight management goals (e.g., weight loss, muscle gain).
- Dietary Choices: Diet types (e.g., Keto, Vegan, Vegetarian, Paleo, Mediterranean).
- Allergies & Restrictions: Excluded ingredients (e.g., nuts, gluten, dairy, shellfish) and food dislikes.
- Contact Information: Name and email address if you voluntarily contact us via form submissions.
Privacy-First Processing: We do NOT store your biometric data (age, weight, height, activity level) in any database or persistent storage on our servers. This information is processed strictly in-memory during your active browser session to compute BMR/TDEE and generate your meal plan, and is immediately discarded upon completion.
2.2 Automatically Collected Data (Usage & Logs)
Like most website operators, we automatically collect certain technical and usage information sent by your web browser:
- IP (Internet Protocol) address.
- Browser type, version, and language settings.
- Operating system and device screen resolution.
- Referral source (the page you visited before coming to our Site).
- Pages visited on our Site, date and time of visit, and time spent on those pages.
3. Legal Basis for Data Processing (GDPR Compliance)
For users situated in the European Economic Area (EEA), our legal basis for collecting and processing the personal data described above depends on the specific context:
- Performance of a Contract: To generate the customized meal plans and recipes you request from our generator tools.
- Consent: When you voluntarily submit forms, opt-in to cookie terms, or provide biometric inputs.
- Legitimate Interests: To monitor website traffic, prevent spam/abuse, maintain site security, and serve relevant advertising.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the processed information only for purposes described in this policy, including to:
- Formulate and generate personalized weekly meal plans and recipes.
- Perform biological calculations (BMR, TDEE, Body Fat percentage, and BMI ratios).
- Respond to inquiries, questions, and requests submitted via our contact forms.
- Optimize, debug, and improve Site performance, user experience, and visual styling.
- Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, hacking attempts, or system abuse.
- Serve advertisements and analyze aggregate, non-identifying traffic statistics.
5. Third-Party Data Disclosures
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal identification information to others. However, we share necessary data with trusted third-party providers to execute Site operations:
5.1 AI Models (OpenRouter API)
To construct customized recipes and structured menus, your selected diet type, allergies, calorie targets, and macro split distributions are transmitted to the OpenRouter AI API. No identifying information (such as name or email) is shared with OpenRouter. You can review their data handling rules in the OpenRouter Privacy Policy.
5.2 Third-Party Advertising & Consent
We partner with third-party ad networks (such as Ezoic and Google AdSense) to serve advertisements when you visit our Site. These networks use cookies, web beacons, and tracking technologies to collect non-personal information (such as your browser type, time of visit, and pages viewed) to serve relevant, personalized advertisements based on your interests.
To learn more about these practices or to opt-out of personalized tracking, you can visit the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) opt-out page or adjust your browser's cookie settings.
5.3 Affiliate Program & Outbound Links (Amazon Associates Disclosure)
MakeMealPlan is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for websites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.
Under this program, the Site features recommended meal-prep products (such as scales, glass containers, blenders, air fryers, and cookbooks) using outbound affiliate links. If you click on one of these links and purchase a product on Amazon, we receive a small referral commission from Amazon at absolutely no additional cost to you. This support helps fund and maintain our free AI meal planning tools and servers.
Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates. These links are clearly identified as affiliate recommendations, and our participation in the Associates program does not impact our editorial choices or design decisions.
6. Cookies & Browser Local Storage
We use minimal cookies and browser local storage to maintain core features:
- Session Cookies: Temporary cookies required to manage user inputs and navigate between step wizard pages. These are deleted when you close your browser.
- Local Storage: We save your cookie consent choice and calculator preferences (e.g. Metric vs. Imperial units) in local storage so you do not have to re-enter them on subsequent visits.
You can configure your web browser to refuse all cookies or to notify you when a cookie is being sent. However, if you refuse essential cookies, some parts of our Site and generator tools may not function correctly.
7. CCPA/CPRA Privacy Rights (California Consumers)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) grant you specific rights regarding your personal information:
- Right to Know: You have the right to request disclosure of what personal information we collect, use, and share (we only process session metrics temporarily).
- Right to Delete: You have the right to request deletion of personal information collected (such as cookies or contact form submissions).
- Right to Opt-Out: We do not sell your personal data. However, third-party advertising partners may collect tracking data. You have the right to opt-out of ad personalization.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your privacy rights.
To exercise any of these rights, California residents can submit a request to support@makemealplan.com.
8. Children's Online Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
Protecting children's privacy online is highly important. MakeMealPlan does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13. In the event that we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information as quickly as possible.
9. Data Security & Retention
We secure your session data using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption and standard web headers to minimize intercept risks. However, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed 100% secure.
We only retain contact form submissions for as long as necessary to address your specific inquiries (up to 12 months). Usage log data is stored for security purposes for up to 90 days, after which it is purged.
